Every individual is different when receiving a procedure tailored to their wants and needs. Due to this there can be a variation of discomfort depending on an individual and the in-clinic abortion procedure they decide to have. For first trimester manual vacuum aspiration or electric vacuum aspiration the procedure takes approximately 2-3 minutes, and cramping that usually follows this procedure can be relieved by Motrin and/or Tylenol. For second trimester abortions, patients will receive prescriptions of medications to be taken post-operatively to manage discomfort. As well as an antibiotic prescribed to prevent infection. You will also be given a prescription for a medication to help the uterus to return to its pre-pregnant size.
