Patient Rights:

Patient rights are rights that protect a patient while in a medical facility or undergoing medical treatment. This may consist of rights protected by federal law, state legislature, and facility defined rights that are contained in a bill of rights. Typically, a patient’s bill of rights ensures that patients have access to things such as their medical information, being treated fairly, and having autonomy in medical decisions. Taking this into consideration, it is important to be informed as to what these patient rights are and how to exercise them appropriately when necessary.

If you ever feel that your patient rights are being violated please consider contacting your Department of Health (1-800-804-5447) or an ombudsman of your area. Contacting these two resources can be possible solutions when trying to address assistance in care issues.
